Very tasty indeed!

This is an absolutely great little novella from the lovely Rebecca Black ....and her first!

Cooking has always been a huge part of Ellies life and something she finds great comfort in, so when she was given the opportunity of working as a chef at E'Toile, she jumped at the chance. Nate and Jack were her best friends and her bosses - and both as hot as hell, so she tried hard to ignore the constant lucid thoughts running through her head. Besides, she had been celibate for the whole year she'd worked there and she could handle it ....or so she thought! Many a day she'd spend lusting after her bosses, watching how they moved and imagining the fun she could have with both of them. Little did she realise that both Jack and Nate were fighting similar feelings, only now they felt it was time to act on them. They approach Ellie and offer her a proposition, one which would hopefully satisfy all three of their needs, but would Ellie go for it?

I have to say that this only took me a few hours to read as I was gripped almost from the off. Rebecca has a great writing style and expertly draws the reader in. Although this is only a short novella, the characters are cleverly brought to life and you're given real understanding of their situation. I found myself really warming to Ellie and it was great having a little background knowledge to better understand her feelings. The sex scenes are sensual yet dirty which I absolutely loved. Rebecca, I applaud you on making me gasp ...it's not an easy thing to do but hey, you managed it!
Overall a great read and one that will make you squirm on the edge of your seat! I look forward to reading more from Rebecca Black with great anticipation.

The Heat is on...!

Having read Rebecca's short stories online I was excited to learn that she was writing a novella.

Ellie works with Nate & Jack in the restaurant business - their working relationship is perfect. The trouble is that after working side by side for over a year Ellie has a case of the hots for Jack and Nate. What can be worse that lusting after one guy? Yep, you guessed it, lusting after his best mate too! Ellie does not want to ruin their friendship so when Nate & Jack make a proposal both professionally and personally she freaks.

Will she take the guys up on their offer? Will it affect her working relationship with them?

Rebecca has a great writing style and given I read a lot in the erotic romance genre she was able to make me blush (no mean feat I must add!!)

I was very honoured to be asked to beta read for her and whole heartedly recommend Rebecca Black to all and sundry. A great new talent and defiantly one to watch.

Naughty but very nice novella.

A spectacular, sexy debut from an author that is now on my 'read anything they write' list!
This novella had me enthralled from the very first page. Ellie is a strong, fiercely independent lady who I instantly warmed to. She works alongside two very hot, successful men who run their own restaurants. Ellie has been lusting over them both for a while but doesn't want to jeopardise her career. Nate and Jack have their own ideas and finally decide that it's time Ellie has a taste of them and vice versa.
The tension between the three is written cleverly and the build up is exquisite torture. The sex is red hot and if, like me, you're a fan of m�nage, you'll be in heaven. When I read at the end, to be continued, I actually bounced with joy!

smart reference book, easy to read

After using Shigley & Mischkes' "Mechanical Engineering Design" for years, a colleague of mine loaned me this book. In comparison to "Mechanical Engineering Design," Deutschman, Michels, and Wilsons' "Machine Design, Theory and Practice" is a much easier (and quicker) read. I only wish my professors in school had chosen this textbook instead of the 'Shigley' title. Information in "Machine Design" goes into great detail for given, specific applications. An example of this would be shown in the text's explanation of Stub Acme & Buttress Threads (used extensively in my industry). Good luck finding finding information of this detail in Shigley's book.

The Day by Day Armageddon project started on a simple pad of paper and from there propagated the universe of worldwide undead devastation. J.L. Bourne intended the original work to appear as if it were hand written--very raw and realistic. He began uploading his work piece by piece to the Internet as a serial depicted as a simple serial of journal entries.

The online journal was intended to immerse the reader into the world that was Day by Day Armageddon--J.L. Bourne's vision of one man, on the run from billions of undead, surviving against all odds.

After months of posting regular serial updates, Bourne began the laborious task of writing the novel version of the underground online cult phenomenon. Suspecting that a traditional publisher might alter his work and take away the raw feel of the journal outlining the fall of humanity, Bourne originally published his work non-traditionally and unconventionally. He wanted the story out there for everyone to enjoy. He wanted it untouched, as a real post-apocalyptic journal might be. He was quoted as saying, "there are no publishers or editors in the apocalypse."

Several publishers contacted Bourne before he was approached by Permuted Press. The two quickly came to an agreement and went to work. The first edition was re-mastered to the underground cult classic it is today.

Handwritten notes, underlines, scribbles, random thoughts and other unique markings gave the journal a chillingly realistic (or was it surrealistic?) feel.

Day by Day Armageddon has since propagated massive interest among fans of post-apocalyptic and zombie fiction.

As a result if his cult success, J.L. Bourne was approached by Simon & Schuster on the prospect of joining up with their Pocket/Gallery Books divisions to release Day by Day Armageddon to the mainstream. It was not long until Day by Day Armageddon was headed to the printing press on a 50,000 copy first print run.

Since that time it has seen many, many printings.

J. L. Bourne’s Day by Day Armageddon, published in 2007, is a zombie horror novel told in a unique diary entry format. J.L. Bourne is an science fiction writer and an active duty Naval Officer adding authenticity protagonists military background. While Major character development and symbolism are used effectively in this book, it lacks minor character development because it is told in the first person. J.L. Bourne effectively communicates that the meaning of life may only be preserved through our own humanity, and the conflicts the protagonist encounters challenge him to make decisions that reflect his evolving morals.

The protagonist is a military pilot who “Starts keeping a journal [for a] New Years Resolution” (Bourne 3). He documents the daily events that unfold even as an outbreak causes the dead to rise. After surviving for weeks, the protagonist becomes desperate for supplies and a simple task to gather food turns into a fight for his life as he is forced away from his home. His journey for a new home introduces him to a handful of interesting characters who together search for a new haven. But as the group grows in size so do the chances of their demise.

Day by Day Armageddon is told from the first person point of view and it is no surprise the major characters are well developed to make them more relatable. In one instance the protagonist, lying injured on a cot, and being treated by Jan, an ex nurse, says, “I was medically attended to by Jan[,] she thought stitches were a good idea” (Bourne 177). Although this act was carried out by Jan because of her medical training, it was as helpful to the protagonist as it was to her stay mentally stable. By using her professional skills, Jan is keeping herself sane and saving a life is a morale booster and a way to maintain her humanity. John is another character who is emotionally unstable throughout the story and to calm himself down he tries to contact other survivors by radio. The protagonist recalls a time saying, “ Whatever keeps his spirits up I suppose“ (Bourne 121). With high “spirits” John shows that with faith comes productivity and in this case it leads him to make the humane decision to contact the other survivors. All in all, the development of major characters as ethical, human beings is crucial to understanding the theme in this story and J.L. Bourne effectively accomplishes that goal.

Another way J.L. Bourne expresses the need to retain humanity is through his use of symbolism. In order to protect the group the protagonist brings John, who is typically a gentle person, to practice shooting a gun. The protagonist knows this and he tricks William into thinking the gun is loaded and as he pulled the trigger “ [The rifle] went high and to the right” (Bourne 118). William was not a soldier nor did he have any training with a rifle and his action shows that he is still trying to grip what little humanity he has left. The symbolism shown here creates a conflict for William as he now has to choose between ignorance or losing a little bit of his humanity to hopefully improve his ability to survive. Another example of symbolism is when the protagonist is stuck between a horde of zombies and a 100-foot fall. He says “I almost F***ing lost it” (Bourne 84) In this one instance, Bourne stresses the importance of being sane during a tough decision. In this case it is particularly difficult to not break down because the protagonist’s life is at stake, but uses his humanity and air force training to survive the encounter. The way Bourne injects symbolism into the story effectively portrays humanity as a high issue.

“Even in the best of lives, mistakes are made” (Joseph J. Ellis), or in this case, good stories have faults. Despite being an overall excellent novel, minor character development needs improvement. From a first person perspective, it is impossible to learn anything from new characters unless the protagonist talks with them and learns about them. For instance, a group of individuals is attacking the compound at which he is staying and he calls them a “Rogue group [of] marauders” (Bourne 197) The protagonist reputedly calls the intruders “marauders” and goes into little further detail about them. The first person perspective limits the knowledge of the reader to the protagonist’s thoughts alone and in turn, the “Rogue group” is yet another underdeveloped band of characters. Most importantly, this book lacks descriptions of other survivors. For instance, the radio the group uses to communicate to the rest of the world, picks up multiple responses from other survivors but when the protagonist goes to describe them he must use their voice alone for he has never seen them. One time he says, “It was a small human voice coming from the radio” (Bourne 121). The lack of description makes the story less dramatic. In turn, The book is less enjoyable to the readers. In conclusion, the minor character development hinders Bourne’s effectivity at portraying the theme.

On the surface Day by Day Armageddon is an a suspenseful thriller, but on a deeper level the book conveys an important message about the humanity within oneself. If you are interested in stories with intricate plots and zombies then Day by Day Armageddon is for you. Overall this story was intriguing and kept my attention from start to finish and I recommend to all zombie fans.

BEYOND EXILE-DAY by DAY ARMAGEDDON

J.L. Bourne has me captured! His descriptive powers, brought me into a story that is beginning to get more intricately well weaved together. New ppl, more responsibility to the new members. Wait till you find out who they are! A trip becomes a disastrous and I'll say only 1 person survives, guess who? Not telling LoL. But he has unexplained super technology suddenly at his disposal. But the technology comes, they find out, from unfriendly sources. Book 3 is gonna be in my face in 5 minutes. I liked the story but some times it's best, to keep characters, not kill em off. But I'm just 1 opinion. And there's nothing wrong with the good surviving with main character's too.

Fresh perspective for the ZPOC

Loved this book. This is one of my first experiences in apocalyptic fiction from maybe half a decade ago? Shame on me for not leaving a review before now...
I haven't read many novels that are written in a journal entry format; in fact, this might have been my first. That being said, it was a unique experience that allowed me to connect with the lead character in a way that I had not experienced before. The story was well crafted and the journey of the protagonist was well developed.
Bourne had me hooked with the first DBDA and then again with his Tomorrow World series. I highly recommend all of his work.

About the Author
Bobby Fischer (March 9, 1943 – January 17, 2008) is regarded as the greatest chess player the world has ever known. He won the US Open Championship at age 13, the US Championship at age 14, became a grandmaster and a candidate for the World Chess Championship at age 15, and defeated Boris Spassky in an epic battle for the World Chess Championship in Reykjavik, Iceland in 1972. In this book, he describes and fully annotates his battles on the way to the top. This book is widely regarded as the best chess book ever written.

A suppressed masterpiece.

Readers should be aware that there have been several editions of this book. In its original form, in descriptive notation and with Fischer's own annotations, it was very well received indeed, earning high praise from many top players and chess writers. It was also voted the best chess book in any category by the readers of the British Chess Magazine, and I'm sure by others.
Unfortunately, when it was later re-edited and issued in an algebraic edition, something happened to Fischer's original annotations. The editors apparently 'revised' them, and the effect was - as Fischer vehemently complained in a recent radio interview - to make him look like "a patzer." He claims that the new annotations are riddled with errors and could never have come from his hand.
Since 'My 60 Memorable Games' is as about important to students of chess as Shakespeare's plays are to students of literature, it would be nice to be able to tell readers to avoid the mutilated algebraic edition and to make sure they get a reprint of the earlier and untampered-with edition of the book. Unhappily neither edition appears to be available. Both have been allowed to go out of print and remain out of print.
One is left wondering just who is keeping this masterpiece off the market. And why...?

The Book and I

Hm...

When I first decided on aquiring this literary masterpiece, I was quite under the impression that there would be a higher annotation:move ratio. I was wrong, but perhaps that is a good thing.

There is a plethora of chess enlightenment within the pages. Knowledge isn't spoon-fed to you, as in many lower-level books, but there are excellent annotations which let us peek into the mind of a chess legend. A chess legend whom, if you are reading this page, you probably adore.

The games are ones which Bobby Fischer considers memorable, so therefore they must be pretty great, right? They are!

Still, as I mentioned, the annotations aren't spoon-fed to you, so you won't be getting anything out of simply playing over the moves really quickly and glancing at the annotations. You actually have to sit in front of Fischer's opponent and contemplate the moves through Fischer's eyes.

C.S.Purdy once said,"If the student forces himself to examine all moves that smite, however absurd they may look at first glance, he is on the way to becoming a master of tactics."

I quote him, because, a lot of Fischer's moves come out of nowhere. When going over Bobby's games in endeavor to guess which move comes next, calculating the bizarre moves is beneficial.

It's an excellent book if you are a dedicated chess player. Casual chess players won't get nearly as much out of it. In other words, if chess is your hobby, you won't get as much out of it. If chess is your life, then stop reading customer reviews, and just go ahead and purchase the book!

Reading this book made me a fan!

First I would like to state this is not the infamous 1995 Batsford release that infuriated Bobby Fischer. This 2009 copy puts all that scandal in the past and lets a new generation enjoy this great book in the language spoken by most players algerbraic notation. The previous alterations in the 1995 edition have been omitted making this a faithful reproduction of a great work. Mostly grammatical errors and misspellings have been corrected. I happen to own this book and compared it to with the alterations stated by Mr. Winter in his article Fischer's Fury and this new issue holds true. Only one alteration was made that is the game Fischer - Tal Candidates Tournament 1959. Fischer in his original book gives (50.....Ba1 when Bobby could have won with 51. Rc8+) instead the correct move made actually in the game 50....Kc7. Fischer in a interview for a chess magazine states at the last minute before the book hit the printing press he caught the error, he attached a note but fell off. Making this an updated copy.

Before reading this book I disdained studying any Fischer games because I believed he couldn't have been a good player for dropping out of competitive chess. Reading this book completely changed my opinion now I consider him my favorite chess player of all time. What makes this game collection so good it was written by Fischer himself. No chess writer can give you a better insight than the man who actually played the games. Fischer's commentary to his games is refreshing bringing his games to life with humor, brutal honesty and humbleness often stating where he made mistakes and could have played better. It shows Bobby's genius to remember the emotional and phycological ups and downs to his games played years before henceforth the title. You also cant beat the annotations they come strait from the mind of one of history's greatest chess artist. You wont be bored here Fisher gives a healthy amount of notes usually at key moments in the games as opposed to other chess writers who leave the reader confused with an extreme amount of notes with no value. Fischer's games are absolutley beautiful I doubt there are many readers who will disagree. This is a must have for any chess reader with any amount of good taste.

Fantastic Book and Concept

This is not just a great book but a great concept. Everybody should try this, express who you are in six words. And of course you can have multiple versions for your multifaceted life. I am a photographer so I wrote:

I have learned a lot

Once upon a time I had been member of research team working on vocabulary within particular field of humanities. Head of the grant was forcing all the researchers to be short and effective in writing. Each of us had to produce a definition of particular term. We were not allowed to use more than 12 words. That was the time for learning - we learned how to speak and write on our topics with no "empty" words.

Larry Smith's book shows something very similar. I love it. I have learned a lot from the book because it shows possibility to be even shorter in your expressions (6 words only) + it shows how you can speak about yourself, about your life shortly and effectively.

The whole skill in both above mentioned cases is to catch the most important point of view. Really THE MOST important. You need to learn how to do it.

Excellent reading and talented students!

My boyfriend allowed me to purchase this on his brand, new kindle and I absolutely enjoyed every second. This is a wonderful, inspirational and insightful book. Visuals were beautiful to see. Students are very creative, talented and unique in their work. Very glad I decided to read this book. :)
