Just As Good

Last summer, when I graduated with an associate degree in land surveying, I have been trying to get a hold of the second edition, 1001 Solved Surveying Fundamentals Problems, 2nd ed., since that was all I had ever heard of, but I always found it no less that $400 dollars which is a rip-off. Finally I saw a link that said there was a third edition, this book, for less than a hundred. I was skeptical, but it is just as good. (Yes, I have used the second edition and know the comparison) So unless you are really into antique collecting, just get this book.

Studying for the FS

I'm studying for the FS and I've found this book to be very helpful for example problems, but your definitely going to need to get the Reference Manual as well because that explains in more detail on how to do problems.

Great help

Don't try to take the FS or PS test without studying this book. If you can do the problems in this, you can pass. It covers many categories of questions and is broken into sections (math, advanced math, hydrology, photogrammetry, vertical curves, boundary law, etc.), which lets you study the subjects where you consider yourself weakest. Great example questions and the answer key has good explanations with the answers. I took the FS in October 2012 and passed on the first try. I took the PS in April 2013 (still waiting for results) and I'm very sure I passed. This was the first time the PS was closed book, so I was one of the test dummies I guess.

Definitely worth the money. Wish it had cost a little less, that's the reason for 4 stars not 5. Still bought it and still worth it though.

Humorous picture book, perfect for teaching the life cycle of a butterfly

With a catchy title like "Houdini The Amazing Caterpillar", I could not resist picking this book up for my preschooler and we were both entertained by the fun story and adorable antics of Houdini, the precocious caterpillar. After hatching out of his egg, Houdini the caterpillar soon finds himself part of a class exhibit and hams it up for the students in the class. Their interest wanes after some time as Houdini faces rivalry from a turtle, a spider and a flower. The little caterpillar thinks upon what to do, and soon enough events take their course and Houdini finds himself the center of attention once more.

The illustrations by author/illustrator Janet Pedersen are vibrant and colorful, and Houdini's final metamorphosis is a sight to behold. There's also some information at the end of the book detailing the life cycle of a butterfly. This is perfect for preschoolers-third graders, and makes a wonderful read aloud picture book.

Houdini is an amazing class pet. He is a caterpillar that knows lots of tricks! After a while the kids in the class get tired of his tricks and start to turn their attention to other class pet. Houdini has to come up with a trick that will just wow them! Read to find out what that special trick is!

What I liked best about the book was the authors note at the end. It included facts about the life cycle of butterflies.

INCREDIBLE text for personal growth

An EfM Interlude text and the BEST one I've seen yet in the past three years.

There is more for consideration in these 136 pages than can be discussed in two short sessions. At five chapters one could consider and easily discuss one chapter per week. Written from an Anglican PERSPECTIVE, I believe that any Christian wishing to deepen their personal understanding can find much to consider; if they are open to the premise that one need to be able to live in tension without insistence that any authority have a corner on absolute biblical knowledge and understanding.

While I can't agree with everything Thompsett offers, I do with most. And that is the gift we are given as theologians ourselves. We must read and interpret thru our eyes and our understanding (in community) to receive glimpses of the mystery with which we are presented, rather than just accepting what we are spoon fed by those some consider leaders.

Proprio cosi!

Sheer brilliance! Tim Parks has an utterly realistic outlook on the romantic ideal of settling in Italy as a foreigner. He clearly loves the country he has chosen as his home, but remains exasperated by its bureaucracy and its peculiar cultural quirks. This non-fictional tale reads like a novel. It is full of dark humour, cynicism and a touch of the epicure.

I was sent this book as I struggled through a year's study in Italy, wondering what on earth had made me go there. The insights offered by Tim Parks allowed me to accept my Italian experience for what it was, 'a package deal.'

My copy is battered, underlined in places and thoroughly appreciated. My Italian friends hate it, mostly because it is so accurate.

I am very disappointed to see it is now out of print. It should be required reading for anyone who is going to Italy!

A birthday gift of my Milanese daughter in 1992, I read Parks with avid appreciation. Ironic intersection of English and Italian culture: for instance, the class of Italians who want to know foreigners, "They feel they have ideas bigger than the narrow mentality of the people around them"(74). But unlike in England, where such people would want to go to a city like Manchester or London, Italians feel it may be even worse in Rome.
"They look to the fairness and openmindedness of the efficient nations further north. Extraordinarily, they believe Britain to be such a nation."
Or the delicious conflict between a local, generous greengrocer and the village priest, who announces, "Something smells rotten in here." The grocer, "Maybe the carogna [rot] of the last person to walk in."
Or the women dressed in Sunday best (furs) out of church into the bar/restaurant: "There is a parade feeling about it all. From one institution to another: the host, the briosche" (131).
His Italian Education, three years later, is in some ways more profoundly and historically revealing.
In it I learned about the Freshman Compsition I taught for 38 years, which was always under pressure to address national issues. During Viet Nam, the war, during the nineties, another war. Turns out, during WWII, Italian students' papers were judged on how well they praised Mussolini.

Good, but needs a competent editor.

This book covers the Unity UI well, with very few omissions, and even dips into C# scripting. It's very adequate for getting started with Unity game development. I wish someone had proof-read it before it was published, however, since the amount of typos and grammatical errors slowed my reading of the text. If you are not bothered by that sort of thing, add another star to this review.

The Waltons wonderful story. It's a winter's eve read. There is the movie called the 'Homecoming as well. The movie has most of the original characters from the 'Waltons' TV series. The movie is in my Christmas movie's collection and watched every year.
The story takes you to a Christmas with a storm causing havoc and the families hope that Pa Walton can get through the storm to be home. After all he has the presents.:) So homey!
