More than the name implies

Despite the name "encyclopedia," this is a comprehensive richly illustrated course on the art of saddle construction, as useful to the novice leathercrafter as to advanced saddle makers. Volume 1 lays the conceptual and theoretical foundation, with discussions of equine anatomy, the components of a saddle, and the techniques and tools of the craft, with instructions for constructing many of these tools. In Volume 2, the steps for making a single saddle are given, and Volume 3 rounds out the instruction with details of making three additional saddles. While these volumes focus on saddle-making, many of the techniques of leather working and stitching are applicable to the construction of a variety of leather items.

Much of the poetry here is not very good which Dr

I have only scanned the prose in this book but I have read all of the poems. Much of the poetry here is not very good which Dr. Owens points out himself. There are a few good poets/chapters though which will be moving to more than scholars. I much prefer his books on the High Tang and Late Tang. But even in this book Owens shows his brilliance with some very intriguing ideas.

THe translations are a bit hurried I think. In one poem about missing a son Owens translates "Son" as "some person. THis really sucks the emotion out of the poem, and makes it bland.

Another place "empty" is translated as "Full" this matters because of the buddist conotations of the word empty which appears in so many poems. By using "full" instead of empty he cuts this poem of from that Buddist discouse.

Speaking of Buddism he seems to miss the cicadia singing/monks chanting metaphore which often shows up in poems of the period. Even a poem which takes place at a Buddhist monistary and ends with Cicada sounds goes by without him mentioning that this is a symbol of monks chanting.

All of the poems in this book are presented in bilingual form! Hooray

Get this back in print!

OK, I have not read this book, and until I can get access to a library that has it I am unlikely to, as I don't have $200 plus to spend on it.

But even if I read this in a library I would still want it in my collection. I like to have books, especially poetry books, around to help with my thining. After reading them I leave them out for a few months (or until my wife insists I put them away) and bring them back out regulalry. This books contains material on several poets that are important to me (Du Fu for example) or at least I think it does.

I may have to start my own publishing company to keep books like this in print for the average poetry reader (there is such a person) who is not ecsconsed in a university library.

Intense Read

This is not like the two previous books. This is a stand alone book, I hope this Author has more storyline for the characters in this book. I loved this book, it's intense, sexy story keeps you reading until the end I couldn't put it down. Love how the characters interact with each other. I will continue to read books by this Great Author

I want a Viktor....!!

First off, I need to say this book surprised the hell out of me. When I first signed up for this the blurb grabbed me straight away. I loved the characters in this book.

When we first meet Ava she’s 18 and in senior year of high school, her best friend Casey is a b****h and she’s starting to realise this. Ava decides to go to a party with her boyfriend Malcolm and she hands her v-card over on a silver platter! But with those come consequences…in the form of a pregnancy. Malcolm decides it’s all too much and gets into trouble and moves away, he keeps it from Ava and leaves her locked out and 8 months pregnant. But then comes along Viktor. Viktor helps her and is there all the way through. Ava does what she needs to do to survive, and to give her daughter Gabbi a stable and loving life and tries her hardest to keep the walls around her heart firmly in place. But bit by bit Vik breaks them down.
Okay, from the first time I met Malcolm I thought he was a total douche.. and I was right! He needed a throat punch for the way he treats Ava, and his mother, don’t even get me started. Viktor, on the other hand, I loved that man and little Gabbi was so adorable. Ava I loved her character and her spirit, she started like any other 18 year old, not sure of herself and the ways of the world, not sure who to trust, but Vik was there all the way through, she fought her feelings for him so she could provide a stable life for her daughter and to not risk her heart again.

This book had me shouting, swooning, tearing up and completely falling in love with an adorable little girl and a strong single mother and of course a gorgeous Russian named Viktor just topped off the whole package…when he speaks to her in Russian, OMG I melted! I was rooting for Viktor and Ava all the way through.
This book was written so well and it flowed beautifully, it was told from Ava’s POV but the epilogue is told from Viktor’s POV which was just amazing I loved it! I'll definitely be on the lookout for more books from this author. Brie kept my interest all the way through!

This book is a story of a strength, trust and a need to survive and all importantly, love! This book is a definite must read and needs to be added to your tbr today!

This is not my first Brie Paisley book but I think its her best to date.The story line is emotional and full of drama, when I first started reading it I must confess I thought it sounded YA but once Viktor came into the story boy did he turn the heat up!! I loved him, sexy cocky, demanding and Russian but is he too good to be true? He showed Ava how much he cared on so many levels though sometimes I found her a bit annoying, the more I read the more I warmed to her. Essentially this is the story of two people finding love but its also about family, forgiveness and revenge. All in all I loved it the story line was strong passionate and emotional and for me Viktor stole the show!

Ava had her life mapped out, she taught ballet, had a gorgeous boyfriend life was good until one night a drunken mistake took it all away from her, left pregnant and alone after Malcolm walks away Ava is facing life as a single mother. Then in walks Viktor; he helps her when she's in labour, he sweeps into her life and into her heart providing her with much needed support and a job. Viktor offers her the chance to start over and re invent herself. He owns a club and he has strict rules, he doesn’t get involved with staff there's no mixing business with pleasure. He offers Ava a contract which states there would be nothing between them but with feelings growing on both sides how long can they both stick to his rules? Viktor is keeping secrets,he has been hurt and vowed never to let anyone close to him again,the past is still causing problems for Ava and both have issues with trust can they build a relationship together?

Nor―despite persistent interventions by the United States, Europe, and the UN―is any resolution in sight.

This study assesses the origins, the dynamics, and the amazing, chameleon-like persistence of the conflict from the early 20th century to the present moment. How did Arab–Zionist rivalry begin? Who won the various wars, and why did no victory produce a stable solution? What historical, legal, and moral arguments does each side marshal to justify its position? Why have all efforts at peacemaking failed to date?

The Hundred-Year Struggle for Israel and Palestine opens with a general history of the conflict, which is followed by secondary readings that illustrate and enrich that preliminary survey. Readings have been carefully chosen to express a variety of interpretive and political viewpoints. The introductory history also pursues a contrapuntal logic, stating―sympathetically but dispassionately―the arguments of both sides. In effect, the book creates an open-ended debate that the reader is invited to join. Not only students of the Mideast, but broadly informed observers of contemporary events should find this work of interest.

Victor Lieberman graduated first in his class from Yale University and obtained his doctorate from the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London. Both an historian of Asia and a comparativist interested in patterns of global integration, he has won the Harry J. Benda Book Prize from the Association for Asian Studies and the World History Book Prize from the World History Association. Lieberman is the Marvin B. Becker Collegiate Professor of History at the University of Michigan, where he teaches a lecture course on the Arab-Israeli conflict.

About the Author
Both a specialist in precolonial Burma and a comparativist interested in global patterns, Victor Lieberman graduated first in his class from Yale University and obtained his doctorate from the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London. His publications include Burmese Administrative Cycles: Anarchy and Conquest, c.1580 1760, which won the Harry J. Benda Prize from the Association for Asian Studies; Beyond Binary Histories: Re-Imagining Eurasia to c.1830, which he edited and an earlier version of which appeared as a special issue of Modern Asian Studies devoted to Lieberman's scholarship; and Strange Parallels: Southeast Asia in Global Context, c.800-1830, Volume 1: Integration on the Mainland, which won the World History Association Book Prize. He is the Marvin B. Becker Collegiate Professor of History and Professor of Southeast Asian History at the University of Michigan.

Hard to find

It's hard to find piano scores of Christmas music that are at all intricate. Most people want to be able to play their familiar music at the Christmas season without devoting months of practice. So, simple, streamlined scores are the rule. That probably has to be true because that's what most people want. These scores use familiar classical themes as carriers of the melodies for Christmas music. So, you get interesting scores and you get your Christmas music, too. As I write this, the scores are only available at Amazon in unrealistically high priced second-vendor offerings. Notice that the scores are still in print and can be bought directly from the publisher at a fair or even modest price. The availability is not difficult, and there is no reason to pay inflated prices for it.

I love this book!

I was a piano teacher for over 15 years and this collection is one of my favorites for my advanced students as well as myself. The Mozart arrangement in particular is just beautiful. I lost this book years ago so I'm looking forward to playing these carols again! This book is relatively easier to play with than her next collection. That one requires quite a bit of practicing unless one regularly play difficult concertos.

Most awesome Christmas Piano book!

I found a used copy of this book at a book fair for $.50, I couldn't believe my find. It is wonderful, all my favorite Sonatinas wrapped around my favorite Christmas Carols. So beautifully written, for medium advanced piano students. I immediately searched and found a new book on Amazon for my favorite music student. She loves Sonatinas and I know she will use this book for a long time.
