I would recommend actually reading this book after or before listening to ...

My issue is not with the famous writing but with trying to understand it for the first time via audiobook. I would recommend actually reading this book after or before listening to it. It was difficult at times to capture the meaning of Marx's words without being able to read and re-read his statements.

With that said, the beginning of the book is fairly straight-forward as Marx describes his take on the relationship between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. This portion will allow the reader to understand the broad implications of Marx's ideals. In the following sections, Marx adjusts his focus to theological and metaphysical critiques which, as I mentioned earlier, are difficult to truly capture in audio-book form.

One of Marx's primary criticisms that stuck out was his attempted refutation of the idea that profits are the only incentive towards labor. He notes that laborers work only for wages, while capitalists (non-producers) earn profits by usurping value from the laborers. Thus he concludes profits are unnecessary for production. However, in this piece he rests his case there. He does not address the need for capital accumulation to assist labor. He does not discuss the role of profits in allocating capital. He also does not discuss the hierarchical production chain (of a single company) ending at the profit-earning capitalist and the incentives created therein. This book is really just a primer on his ideas, requiring the reader to seek further texts for clarification.

This book has a lot of good advice and much wisdom

One of the most memorable stories on this audio cassette (and in the book as well) is where Maya tells what her Mama (grandmother) would do when a known-whiner would come into their general store in Stamps, Arkansas.
Mama would call for Maya, saying, "Sister, come over here." When the "whiner" came in, Mama would ask them "How are you doing?" and the whiner would launch into a lengthy complaint about the weather and work and other things.
After this whiner left the store, Mama would turn to Maya and say "Sister, nobody likes to listen to someone who whines and complains..." and she'd tell Maya that there were lots of people - black and white, rich and poor - who went to bed last night and never woke up this morning, who'd give almost anything to have one more day of work or one more day in the summer's heat.
And the summation - "Sister, if you don't like something, change it. And if you can't change it, change the way you think about it."
This is a powerful book/audio tape. And it is narrated by Maya Angelou, which makes it even more of a treasure.
I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve the way they think about life.

Speaking to a Grandparent or Elder

This is and will probably always be one of my most favorite books. The wit and wisdom shared within can be applied to everyday living. As I read, I felt as if I was speaking to a grandparent or elder that was sharing invaluable experiences from which I could glean from to make my own life better. Each chapter is short and gets to the point, which I think is a hallmark of great writing.

Dated language and list. And a direct translation of the French word list. The sources for the French list are from the 1920-'30s. They gave it a Venice cover photo on a translated list.
Barely usable for this reason.
If you speak the language you can pick out the words that are no longer used. But you can't trust what you see as still being in the correct order of frequency for today's Italy.
If you don't speak italian, do not buy this.

The series is expensive since it must be ordered-shipped from Europe. -MINUS ONE STAR

Caveat: The Arabic version uses not only transliteration but one of the WORST transliteration schemes ever devised (e.g., treating d-D, h-H, t-T, ain-hemza, th-TH, s-S as one letter each). (I took of an additional star on the Arabic review).

BUT, I typed them into the free Pauker flashcards (SourceForge.Net) and then learn(ed) the most common 2000 words in the language -- along with my OTHER studies in the language this really speeds up comprehension.

The Attributes of God

This book is based on the sermons of A.W. Tozer, a man who served as a pastor for 44 years without benefit of any college or seminary training. Tozer discusses 10 of God's attributes, from his mercy and grace to his immensity and holiness. In the back of the book, David Fessenden adds a study guide which can be used by an individual or by a group. Tozer contends that our faith can only be as big as our God and he feels that we have "watered down" our Lord and as a result, we have also reduced out faith. In each chapter Tozer tells the reader about one of God's characteristics, then defines it and discusses how this attribute effects the life of the believer. In the process he answers questions such as "Why Are We Not Happy?" and shows us that God is perfect and infinite in every way. God's Lordship derives not from what He does but in who He is, and Tozer does a good job of helping us understand that better.

I brought this book couple of weeks back to get prepared for IELTS. Even though I am yet to sit for IELTS but I should mention couple of good things I felt so far

- I am a computer engineer by profession and working with multi-national companies since last 11 years so I thought I have a decent knowledge in English and I should be okay to sit for IELTS. The very moment I have started digging about this exam my confidence level gone down significantly. Lots of scary stuff written all over the place and I felt like it’s easier to go to space than sit for this. Then I started searching for books in Amazon, Initially was skeptical to buy this book. Then I thought its only $20 let’s take a chance. But thanks to my instinct. The moment I started reading first 3-4 pages I got back my confidence level. I really liked the well laid out process presented here. I don’t know how much I will score in actual exam but I got my confidence back for just $20. Not a bad deal.

- I am a process oriented person; to me this book is right fit. Rather than going all over the place at the same time this book gives you a direction and a process to follow. After reading few pages you will get to know what exactly has to be done to get target band 7 and how will do it. I personally liked it.

- Last but not the least I should mention about the writer. I must appreciate her attitude towards this book. I know there is no shortcut for this exam, rather not in any exam like this. But at the same time the guidance you will take is very important. After following a book or a teacher for a purpose, most of us start inheriting the attitude of the guide and I think that is very important. Positive attitude leads to success and negative one misleads you. I think, she maintained a very positive attitude throughout the book. She mentioned the difficulties for various section at the same time she also pointed out the right way to overcome it

When I started reading Ace the IELTS, I thought I was about to ready "another" book. However, I realized most of the pieces the advice given by the author were exactly the same I usually give my students when I train them to get great score bands on this exam. I've been training people for more than two years now, and there's a great deal of things I've learned from different autors, and TO ME, if you're training people for the IELTS,this book ought to be in your personal bookshelf, believe you won't regret. All the different chapters are just wonderful and your students will value this kind of info beforehand.
