Harlan cracked his knuckles before picking up a portable scanner and taking Xon's readings. He showed Nancy, who bit her lower lip at what he had found.

"Remove it?" he asked.

"We'll have to. Even if we could we don't have the time to attempt a reconstruction," she replied.

Remove what? Xon asked, slightly alarmed.

Nancy ignored him, focusing instead on the task at hand. After selecting a laser scalpel and asking for suction, she delved into what was left of Xon's midsection.

Dammit Nancy, he said. What are you gonna remove?

Nothing important, she told him as she concentrated.

It mightn't be important to you, but it is to me. That's my body you're removing things from.

The scalpel slipped. "Shit," she muttered as Harlan stepped in to assess what damage she had made.

What? What did you do?

"Xon," she said, startling everyone. "If you do not shut up, I will either kill you or castrate you. Do you understand me?"

His silence was answer enough, so she continued, this time with one less distraction.

"He's really in there?" Constance asked.

Nancy glared at the woman, who wisely kept any further questions to herself.

Sci fi trilogy ends

Well this wrapped up the Callisto trilogy. Nice sci-fi and romance elements. It wrapped storylines up that I had never put together - well done! Unfortunately it left a lot of the main characters outright being untrustworthy which seemed too gritty if realistic. Also I do like both partners of my romantic couples to be alive at the ending. Xon's sudden turn around at the end was unbelievable to the max which caused me to subtract a star because - really ???? - no one? Good reading.

Just enough 'science' to go with the romantic fiction. Wonderful quick reads, action packed story line. Recommend you buy all three: Taken, Adrift, and United. With all three at once on your device a you won't waste time with "cliffhanger" anxiety. {#hatecliffhangars!} Looking forward to more stories from this author.

Daniel Bonevac is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin. Educated at Haverford College (BA) and the University of Pittsburgh (MA, PhD), he is author of five books and editor or co-editor of three others. His first book, Reduction in the Abstract Sciences, won the Johnsonian Prize from the editors of The Journal of Philosophy. He has published articles on ethics, metaphysics, philosophical logic, and the philosophy of language. He has been teaching courses on contemporary moral issues for thirty years.

todays moral issues

the book came in great condition, came with high-lighted sections but that's ok. Turned out to be a harder read than I anticipated, could be that I'm the type of person that gets to the point of topics of discussion quickly without a lot of extra verbiage - most of the articles in the book are pretty wordy and could be condensed without losing anything of importance. Anyways, its the book the professor uses so I'll just have to make it work.

A Great Reference on Stone Construction in Pharaonic Egypt

This book is an excellent source of information on many aspects of stone construction in Pharaonic Egypt, including quarrying, transporting and working stone, construction planning and execution and manpower requirements. It includes sections on pyramids, temples, foundations, walls, monuments, roads, tools and many others. Well researched and referenced with numerous pictures, drawings and diagrams, all in B&W. The writing is of a detailed text-book style and not one of entertainment. With no training in the language of stone working I found the glossary necessary and useful. Some descriptions of procedures were not clear to me, requiring constant flipping of pages to refer to the various diagrams, pictures and charts. I wouldn't recommend this as a casual read, but for those who are truly interested in the subject, this is the book for you. I truly wish I had read this book before I visited Egypt, as it would have answered all of the questions I constantly found myself asking.

An extraordinary book

There are earlier studies that cover much of the same ground, but this book easily surpasses them all. The author clearly explains ancient Egyptian stone building techniques, including planning, quarrying, and tools. The study is clearly laid out, uses hundreds of photos and diagrams, and the organization follows a logical order that enables the reader to follow the occasionally complex methods of the ancients. Controversies over building techniques, such as the classic ramp problem of the pyramids, are covered by exploring all of the potential methodologies.

This is an outstanding book for anyone interested in stone work, ancient engineering, and the time of the pharaohs. Highly recommended.

Dr. Jonn Mumford (Swami Anandakapila Saraswati) wrote his first book "Psychosomatic Yoga" in 1961 while completing an intensive period of study in India. �His current books include "Ecstasy Through Tantra, "A Chakra and Kundalini Workbook", "Mind Magic Kit" and "Magic Tattwas" from Llewellyn.

I have done enough yoga however to know this book is fantastic.
Buy it and read it. It will have spiritual benefits.

A wonderful resource!

Anyone who is seeking to understand IASs & IFRSs could not have hoped for a better book! It explains the standards in language which is easy to understand, it supplements the examples in the standards with real-world examples, it explains why a particular treatment is being recommended or is the preferred treatment.

The book's philosophy is that IASs & IFRSs are not documents or rules which need to be memorised or learned by rote; they are pronouncements which need to be understood! And the authors try their level best to explain the standards to the reader.

They do a great job of it! Real world examples are supplemented by relevant extracts from the financial statements of corporates around the world. And there are end-of-chapter discussion questions, graded exercises and detailed problems too.

I don't think that most students/practitioners could have asked for a better guide to IASs & IFRSs. This is perhaps the best book that is currently on the market. It needs much greater publicity!!!

The move to IFRSs is big business and there are many not-so-good texts out there. But the authors of this book are very clearly not motivated by monetary motives alone; they have a lot of knowledge and experience and they try their level best to impart that knowledge in a manner which is refreshingly easy to understand.

This book definitely stands head and shoulders above the also rans. Very highly recommended!
